Description
Veg tan leather sides from Sepici tannery in Turkey. From premium European cow hides, which tend to be larger and cleaner than cow leathers from other parts of the world. Great for stamping, carving, dyeing and more.
A full range of thicknesses are available to choose from so you get the exact leather necessary for your project. For those looking for veg tan leather alternatives to Hermann Oak or Wickett & Craig, and to save a buck or two, Sepici veg tan leather is an excellent option.
Priced by the square foot starting at $7.95 for retail, averaging 25 square feet total.

If cased right stamps well, dyes well, swivel knife cuts well, clean leather with minimal swivel blade stropping and antiques well. in my case my side had very few blemishes.

Always impressed with the quality of leather. Shipping gets to me quicker than any place else I order from.

While I have not tried tooling this hide. It was fairly clean with no brands or marks on the grain side but there were a number of knife cuts from skinning that nearly go through the hide. Several of those cuts were in the area from where belts and straps would be cut. While those can be worked around for small projects it does limit the usefulness of this particular hide.
In retrospect I think that Herman Oak, though more expensive is probably a better value for my uses.
I have purchased Sepici double shoulder in the past to use as lining in the past. Generally, it has been clean but oddly trimmed a little difficult to accurately figure how many would be needed to line larger projects. A set of fancy 22″ tapaderos for example.
I was hoping the full sides would be a little better.

I am quite disappointed by the quality. The side piece is marked on more than 3/4 of it. I am keeping it since I need to use part of it right away for a project, otherwise I would have returned it. I would expect far higher quality for over $200. You will find several images of the markings attached. In the past, I had never experienced any problems with leather sides. For this type of quality, I can purchase locally.

The perfect alternative to more expensive veg tan. Tools well, takes dye well.
