Description
What is Hermann Oak Buffed Skirting?
Hermann Oak Buffed Skirting is a midgrade skirting where the rough out (or underside of the skirting) has been buffed out for a more even and consistent finish. The cowhides we receive from Hermann Oak are very good quality and these sides are still extremely clean the vast majority of the time. Brands and marks are rare, but possible. To learn more about Hermann Oak and their process, check out our blog.
When do people use it?
Saddles, stirrup leathers and armor for re-enactment are popular uses.
What are the thicknesses and sizes?
Our buffed skirting is available in 13/15 oz. The sides average 25 square feet.

I was so excited about ordering from y’all .I couldn’t wait to get the Leather. I was going to make some belts for a craft fair in a few weeks. I received the Leather very fast. It was great size and had only one small blemish. I was very happy. I cut it into strips and noticed the Leather has wavy areas on both ends. I tried wetting and clamping between boards. They just won’t lay flat. So I might can make skinny people belts or dog collars. Plus the Leather was buffed to make it more even but almost a third of it is 7/16 inch thick. The rest of it is13-15 oz but too wavy. Not happy at all. I feel like I wasted my money.
I won’t be able to make my money back on this one. Very disappointed.

Hey Buckley, sorry to hear the leather didn’t meet your needs! For the record, we have saddle makers use this leather, and those wavy parts can be done away with wetting and pressing them. Additionally, skirting leather like this is usually a bit too thick for something like a belt, which is usually 8-9 or 9-10 oz leather. Please reach out if you have any questions!
